Naively embedded trust can be easily abused, with victims often failing to realize that instead of supporting and understanding, they become part of a refined scam plan. It is in this digital space where the boundaries between reality and illusion are thin, the consequences of lies are devastating.
01. 1. Episode (Elena)

Pensioner Elena divorced her husband after a 43-year bond. He has 3 adult children, the youngest, 16 year old son, tragically died. Elena lives in a social city apartment in Spišská Nová Ves and receives a minimum pension. She is strongly believing. Elena met the widow John Lewis, who allegedly came from Switzerland and worked for Tethys Oil. The company was supposed to carry out oil drilling in Turkey. John has a 12-year-old son Spencer, who later gets sick and, like Mrs. Elena's late son, he dies.

About two weeks after the acquaintance, John Elene sends a photo of a work injury, claiming that he must provide a new machine for the company and a linked transportation for which he needs 12,500 euros. He promised to return two to three times. John’s financial requirements are increasing and repeated, the work project is in danger. Elena John has repeatedly saved because he believes that she is waiting for her future with this master. Elena has no own funds, her loans from bank, non-banknotes and other sources have climbed to 23,800 euros. But the story takes an unexpected direction when the victim becomes a scammer.

And that was the beginning of a great love story. Their relationship lasted less than 2 years, during which they did not even shoot in person.

Thirty-year-old John has a college education, a successful career. He sought his love through the Tinder app, where he met the irresistible Tiffany in March 2023. In addition to romantic topics, they also had a common theme: investing in cryptocurrencies. Tiffany invited him to another trustworthy-looking platform and convinced him to try to invest. John has become the victim of a romantic fraud known as the Zhu pan (killing pigs) that serves for money laundering.
