Jim Bergerac is a detective sergeant in The Foreigners Office who likes to do things his own way. While dealing with his own personal demons Bergerac has a knack of finding trouble, and sometimes causing it.

Jim returns to duty to solve the murder and is asked by an ex-con who believes he was framed to go back over the details of the robbery of a courier company some years earlier which has a connection with the recent death.

It is time for the grape picking, and Jim helps Albert. However, the son of a wealthy businessman turns up to help out, and unknown to Jim, he is a computer hacker stealing large amount of money during business transactions.

Broken-hearted by a letter from his French girlfriend, Jim is back on the bottle but Charlie persuades Jim to accompany him to Bath as minder of a priceless painting. There he falls victim to the wiles of a woman who frames him for murder.
