Vincent Ogier, a student at the École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris, is sent to Guyana for a ten-month internship to prospect in the forest in search of gold, with his internship supervisor Merlot for the benefit of the company Cayenorn. Merlot discovers a very promising site and decides to resell the coordinates to Serra, notorious kingpin of Guyanese gold, in order to ensure a quiet life, being suffering from an incurable cancer.
